A mid-term monitoring visit by the University of Nairobi was undertaken from the 21st to the 22nd June 2016.The workshop was attended by three representatives from the UoN: Prof. Kiama-Principal, CAVS, Prof Kironchi – Chairman of LAMART, Mr. Humphrey Webuye- representative of DVCA.
ISTVS was represented by Dr. Fred Wesonga –Principal ISTVS, Dr. Abdullah Sheikh- Dean of Studies ISTVS, Hailleselassie Geberemariam- HOD DEAM programme, Godfrey Anyika-LAB Technologist, Dan Opilio-Tutor Environmental Studies, Robert Waweru-Tutor Sociology and Community Development, Enock Kiptoo-Tutor Economics, Matinde Waigoge-Tutor Extension, Ahmed Omar Warsame-Tutor Plant Science,Wali Hussein-Tutor Agricultural Economics, Mohammed Abdirahman –Tutor Soil Science, Amuza Kireba- ISTVS librarian.
The key objective of the monitoring visit was to evaluate the progress made on the implementation of the DEAM programme with emphasis on:
• Facilities within ISTVS and general capacity building as stipulated in the accreditation document
• Status of the library
• How the department is being run
• Qualifications of the teaching staff
• Challenges faced in implementation of the programme
• The general demand of the courses in Somali context
• The strategic direction of ISTVS
• The value of the programme to the society and the expectations (of the society).

As a way forward, it was agreed that ISTVS establishes closer communication with the link person, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and the Principal of the College of Veterinary Medicine to address any constraints encountered in the implementation of the programme.

  1. Nice visitation , this is a step forward and it is a clear indication of ISTVS’s move toward strengthening its relationship to peer institutions in the region . hope the program will be diversified and we attract more students and new partners for the near future
